Epilogue – 22: Former Villager A Spends a Sleepless Night:-

Welcome folks,
It’s been a long time, though the chapter got released in Feb, I had been delaying and procrastinating due to various RL issues. Because of that, I want to give a huge shout-out to Zaiark for the Ko-fi support and for helping kick-start the translation of this chapter.
Anyways, enjoy the chapter, until the next release, bye~

After the welcome party, we returned to the Western-style mansion we had built. Then Klaus immediately called out to me.

“Lord Allen, leave the rest to us and get some rest.”
“Really?”

I stared intently at Klaus’s face. Despite having been drinking at the welcome party just moments ago, he showed no signs of being drunk.

It seems he can hold his liquor pretty well.

“Yes. You must be exhausted from the long journey. Moreover, you did use such powerful magics.”
“……Okay. Thank you. In that case, I’ll leave the rest to you.”
“Yes, Please Leave it to us.”
“But Klaus, you’ve been drinking quite a bit too, haven’t you? Don’t overdo it, okay.”
“That’s very kind of you to say! However, that amount doesn’t really count as drinking.”

He really seems to be able to hold his liquor.

“Okay. Then, see you tomorrow.”
“Yes, Good night.”
“Ah, Good night”

And so, leaving the rest to them, I returned to my room.

The room was about eight tatami mats in size, with a fairly large bed in the middle and a table and chairs by the window. It was a simple room, just for sleeping.

“……I guess the bed was a little too big.”

I ended up muttering something like that to myself.

I had thought a single bed—or at most a semi-double—would be plenty, but it seems the bed in the room I share with Anna has become the standard. It’s turned out a little differently than I initially expected.

“Oh well. It’ll be the same once I sleep.”

As soon as I locked the door from the inside, I changed into something comfortable and collapsed onto the bed.

My eyes fall upon the simple, unfamiliar wooden ceiling.

……What is this? This feeling of loneliness.

I thought I was the type who could sleep anywhere…. but maybe I was more tired than I realised?

No, that’s not it. I guess what I really miss is the familiar warmth next to me.

“……Anna”

I call out my beloved wife’s name, but of course, there is no answer.

I let out a big sigh and closed my eyes.

…..I can’t sleep. Normally, I would be asleep by this time.

As I muse over it, I start thinking about Anna again and feel restless. Suddenly, I sensed someone in the hallway.

…..That gait doesn’t sound like Klaus’s. Could it be another member of the advance party?

No, that’s not right. If it were them, their footsteps would be a bit heavier. There’s no way their footsteps would be this light.

Does that mean it’s an assassin who managed to slip past Klaus and his men’s security? No, even for an assassin, their presence is far too obvious.

I got out of bed, picked up my Nikov just in case, and peeked outside to see what was going on.

Footsteps are slowly approaching. The stride seems small, suggesting the person may be petite and lightly built.

Moreover, it doesn’t look like they’re trying to hide it.

As I contemplated the situation, the person had already stopped right in front of my door before I knew.

……It seems my room is their destination after all.

I hid behind the bed, ready to fire at any moment.

But the person standing outside shows no sign of moving. They aren’t about to burst in, nor do they seem to be leaving.

…..Could it be? The guy on the other side of the door is just a decoy, and is there another assassin out there?

Just as I started keeping a watchful eye in all directions, it happened.

Knock, knock.

“Huh!?”

There was a normal knock on the door, and I, who had been on guard, couldn’t help but gasp.

“Ah, um… Hero-sama”

I heard Leia’s hesitant voice coming from outside.

…..What the hell! I was on guard for nothing!

Feeling frustrated by my hasty conclusion, I took a deep breath to calm myself down.

“How did you get in here? I haven’t given any outsider permission to enter.”
“B-But…..”
“Just go home. You weren’t here today. Got it?”
“Ah, B-But…..”

I see. She’d been acting strangely since the welcome party, so that explains it.

I let out a deliberately loud sigh.

“I am ordering you to go home. I have no intention of betraying my wife.”
“Ah, well, um…..”
“I’m ordering you to go home. Do you know what will happen if you don’t?”
“Eek!? I’m so sorry!”

When I said it in a low, threatening voice, Leia apologised in a panic and immediately scampered off.

Honestly. What was that, “Leave the rest to me”, nonsense!

Besides, I suddenly don’t feel like I can sleep at all.

With no other choice, I changed my clothes and left my room, intending to give Klaus a piece of my mind. I went down to the first floor where Klaus and the others were staying, but…

“Ah! Ah! Ah!” (Tl:- (ノ_<。))
“Amazing! It’s amazing!”
“Aaaaaah!”

To my surprise, I could hear moans coming from the room I’d given to the advance team.

…..What the hell are those guys doing?

Well, I’m a man too. I can understand how they felt.

But… wait! So that’s what it is!

“Yessss”

I let out a huge sigh and headed back to my room.

Early the next morning, just as the sky was beginning to lighten, I went to Klaus’s room and knocked roughly on the door.

“Hey, Klaus. Are you awake?”
“Eep”

I heard a woman’s voice coming from inside.

“Oh, wake up! Sir Captain! The hero-sama is here!”
“Eh?”
“It’s the Hero!”
“Huh?! Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, I’m so sorry I overslept… wait? Not yet?”
“Just get dressed already. I could open the door right now, you know?”
“I, I, I’m so sorry!”

A loud sound came from inside, and the door was immediately opened.

“Good morning, Lord Allen. Do you need any assistance this early–“
“Ah, good morning. I’ll let last night slide. But from now on, I am forbidding anyone from bringing women into this mansion. Understood?”
“Eh?”
“This isn’t a brothel. Those moans last night, what was that? They echoed through the hallway.”
“Ugh….”
“Listen. I have no intention of betraying my wife. I won’t stop you guys from sleeping with women, but do it somewhere other than this mansion. Got it?”
“Y-Yes….”
“You too. If you get it, go home already.”
“Oh, yes! My apologies!”

As soon as I said that, the woman who had been in Klaus’s room hurriedly left the mansion.
